The Ultra 500 satellite receiver provides digital free-to-air satellite reception. The Ultra 500 is a powerful satellite receiver, specially designed for free-to-air enthusiasts. The extremely easy to use and yet interface and comprehensive Power Scan feature make the Ultra 500 the most preffered and recommended free-to-air receiver for the International market. The front panel has 8 buttons allowing complete control of the receiver’s functions without the use of the remote. All free to air satellite receivers come with a basic 4x1 diSEqC switch either supplied for free by the product manufacture or added to the order by GOsatellite. The disecq switch is a necessary part of a free to air installation if the satellite dish you are connecting to has 2, 3, or 4 LNB’s. The unfortunate problem is the cheap quality of the free diseqc switch that’s included with most FTA receivers. The life expectancy of the free disecq switch is typically less than 1 year. See connection diagram below and the benefits of a heavy duty high quality switch. If you can stretch your budget by $20 we highly recommend that you include the heavy duty EMP 4x1 DiSEqC Switch. The EMP brand is designed, engineered, and manufactured in Europe and comes in a protective industrial grade plastic weatherproof case. This is the best switch on the market with a low insertion loss of only 1.5db which will offer better signal and picture quality (basic switches are 6db of signal loss!) The EMP is nickel metal cast plated, designed for indoor or outdoor installation and will combine 4 satellites to one digital FTA receiver. Long-term it makes sense to spend a few extra dollars more now to have a completely functional FTA satellite system for years to come. All professional installers swear by the quality, 4 year warranty, and the performance of the EMP switch. For them it's simple, go to a customers house, do the installation, and they will not have to worry again about a failing switch or loss of signal or picture quality. Do the install right the first time and do it once.

Most free to air receivers have an option that allows you to record by adding an external FTA DVR hard drive. It connects through the USB port on the FTA receiver. In the FTA receivers on-screen menu you can program the FTA receiver to record a channel when you are away to watch later or you can record a live channel. This will allow you to download the latest manufactures bin file from the Internet to the USB drive and then load it to the receiver. Having a flash drive makes upgrading the receiver a snap.

4x1 DiSEqC Switch This switch allows you to connect up to 4 LNB’s or 4 satellites dishes to one free to air satellite receiver. The receiver will send a command to the switch and allow the dish or LNB to be turned on and allow you to the view the channel you have selected.
