|
Who is GlobeCast?
|
GlobeCast
the broadcast services division of France Telecom is the world
leader in professional broadcast, enterprise television and Internet
delivery via satellite.
|
|
What
is GlobeCasts WorldTV Service?
|
GlobeCasts
WorldTV is a Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite service that delivers the
largest variety of television and radio programming from around the world
to viewers in North America. The signal can be received at your home with a
GlobeCast decoder and small dish.
|
|
How
does the GlobeCast WorldTV Service work?
|
Our
world television and radio channels are transmitted by two GlobeCast Earth
Stations on the East and West coasts of the US to the powerful satellite
Intelsat Americas 5, which covers the entire US and reaches into Canada, Mexico and
the Caribbean.
Consumers
can begin receiving GlobeCast's exciting WorldTV programming by simply
purchasing a receiver package and arranging an installation by contacting a
professional installer through the GlobeCast
Preferred Installer directory at www.globecastWTV.com.
|
|
How
much does the GlobeCast WorldTV Service cost?
|
For
FTA ( free-to-air) channels, there is no subscription fee required.
Viewers can purchase a receiver package from GlobeCast for the
one-time fee of $179 (exclusive of tax and shipping charges).
To order your receiver package call the GlobeCast Customer Service
Center toll-free at 1-888-988-5288.
Standard installation costs generally range from $125 to $175, but please check with your local installer for
pricing in your area.
For encrypted channels, in addition to the receiver package, a
monthly subscription fee is required in order to receive the channel/s.
The majority of GlobeCast's
encrypted channels can be ordered by calling our Customer Service Center

1-888-988-5288. For specific information on subscription fees please
visit our Ordering

|
|
What
channels are offered on GlobeCasts WorldTV Service?
|
GlobeCast
currently offers a bouquet of quality foreign and English language news and
entertainment channels, from Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. As we are
constantly adding new and exciting channels, please continue to visit our
World Television Web site at www.globecastWTV.com
for
the most up-to-date channel line-up.
|
|
What
is the difference between FTA (free-to-air) and encrypted channels?
|
GlobeCast
offers two types of channels; FTA ( free-to-air) and encrypted. FTA channels are
unscrambled - that is - they can be received with any DVB compliant MPEG-2
receiver package. Encrypted channels are scrambled, and require a monthly
subscription in addition to the receiver package purchase price. Click
here for information on
encrypted channels and subscription fees, or call the GlobeCast Customer Service Center
toll-free at 1-888-988-5288.
|
|
What
is a SmartCard?
|
A
SmartCard is a credit card- sized key with an embedded microchip, which
allows subscribers to view encrypted programming. When a viewer orders an
encrypted program, a SmartCard is "matched" to that viewer's
receiver ID. When the correct SmartCard is inserted into the receiver, an
authorization is performed via satellite, and the subscriber will be able
to view the requested programming.
|
|
What is a PDF file?
|
Adobe PDF is a universal file format that preserves all the fonts, formatting, graphics and color of any source document, regardless of the application and platform used to create it.
You can get the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader free from www.adobe.com.
|
|
How do I view Flash content?
|
Flash content will automatically play as long as you have the Flash Player installed properly. You can get the Flash plug-in free from
www.macromedia.com.

|
|
I
live in an apartment building.
Can I still order the GlobeCast WorldTV package?
|
Yes,
you can! As part of the 1996 Telecom Act, the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) prohibits the restriction on placing antennas in owned or
leased areas of multiple tenant environments (MTE's).
Because GlobeCast's WorldTV service antennas are smaller than 1 meter in diameter, they can be
safely and legally installed in apartment buildings and gated communities.
If your condominium or homeowners' association forbids you to install your
receiver package please notify them of Section 1.4000 of the Rules and
Regulations of the FCC.
Additional information can be obtained by visiting
the FCC website at:
www.fcc.gov
or tel: 1 202 418 0163.

Equipment
|
|
|
Does
the GlobeCast WorldTV receiver package carry a warranty?
|
Yes,
there is a warranty. GlobeCast warrants its systems to be free of defects
in material and workmanship for the period of one year from the date of the
original purchase. This warranty does not cover damage due to improper
installation or use, lightning, accident, negligence, unauthorized service,
or incidental or consequential damages beyond the systems themselves.
|
|
Why
is the GlobeCast WorldTV antenna larger than other direct-to-home
operators' antennas?
|
The
satellite that has become the prime location for international programming
in the US is Intelsat Americas 5, a powerful communications satellite that was not
originally engineered for Direct-to-Home reception. Because of this, slightly larger
antennas are required to downlink the programs on Intelsat Americas 5. You will find,
however, that signal quality in North America is excellent with our .75
meter elliptical antennas.
|
|
I
want to watch my local cable TV as well as GlobeCast WorldTV. Is this
possible?
|
Yes,
you can still subscribe to and watch your local cable TV service even if
you have installed the GlobeCast WTV receiver package. This is possible because our
receiver has a coaxial cable input/output for accessing your local service.
|
|
I
lost the manual for my GlobeCast WorldTV receiver. How can I get a
replacement?
|
The
manual for the GlobeCast receiver and antenna are both available online at
our website, www.globecastWTV.com.
Click on Technical Support
and you will see the manuals are available in PDF format. You will need to
obtain a copy of the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the documents. If
you don't have the Reader, you can download a free copy through a link
provided on the same page
or go to Adobe's
web site.
|
|
I
would like to have GlobeCast WorldTV available on more than one television
in my home. Is this possible?
|
Yes,
it is possible to have access to WorldTV channels on more than one television set.
This will
require purchasing additional decoders and will also mean additional
charges at the time of installation. When you call the WorldTV call center
at 1 888 988 5288, mention to the customer service specialist that you would
like to purchase more than one receiver for multiple televisions. Also,
please check with our local installer to verify additional
installation charges.
