Viewsat Xtreme vs Viewsat Ultra. What one is better?
The Viewsat Ultra is the most powerful and newest standard definition FTA receiver available on the market. Some of the key differences are the processor speeds, the Xtreme has a 160 MHz and the Ultra is 200 MHz. Having a faster processor allows for faster channel changing and menu functions. The next difference is the memory, the Viewsat Xtreme has 16MB and the Viewsat Ultra has 32MB. The benefits of more memory in an FTA receiver is better on-screen menus, user interface, and a longer and more detailed electronic program guide. The final major difference is the method of doing a software or firmware upgrade to the receiver. The Viewsat Xtreme uses a 9-pin serial cable from the receiver to your computer, which means each time you want to upgrade the receiver you have to disconnect it from the TV and connect it to the computer. The Viewsat Ultra has a USB port and we include a free 1GB memory stick that will allow you to save the bin file or channel list to the stick and then insert it into the Viewsat Ultra and do the upgrade from the memory stick. That is a simpler method then disconnecting and reconnecting the receiver from the TV each time. Both units are wildly popular and made in Korea for the highest quality standards.
